Hello and welcome to the first in a series of Blogs prepared by Waters Legal Costs Ltd specifically designed for entry level lawyers, trainees, paralegals and for anyone else wanting to get a grasp of legal costs.
This first Blog is an introduction to Waters Legal Costs Ltd (‘WLC’) and to let you know what we will be covering in the coming weeks.
WLC were formed in October 2020 and are a full-service Legal Costs Firm. After years of working in house and for other Costs firms our Principal, Stuart Waters became dismayed at the industry in general and decided to go back to basics, offering client’s a personal service, with high quality, good results but at a lower price.
We will be doing 2 Blogs per month, on the 1st of each month we will discuss costs generally taking you from the very start (retainers) to the very end (assessment) and everything in between.
The subjects being covered are:
1. Retainers and Funding;
2. Hourly Rates/Grade of Fee Earner/Time Recording;
3. Recoverable and Non-Recoverable Costs;
4. Costs Orders and Basis of Costs;
5. Budgets (Precedent H);
6. Bills of Costs;
7. Points of Dispute/Points of Reply;
8. Negotiations/Offers/Assessment.
On the 14th of each month we will be concentrated on one specific point raised by you the reader, so we encourage you to contact us with your specific issues and we will concentrate on the most widely requested issue, as an example the next Blog on 14 September will be in respect of Part 36 offers and their consequences.
This is very much the more you put in the more you will get out of it so please do get involved.
